Diane Ravitch on Bill Moyers Show

As Diane Ravitch explains on her blog,

“Bill Moyers is one of my heroes. He is one of the few people in the media who is as concerned about the privatization and monetization of the public sector as I am. He has a long memory, and he has not forgotten that a good society needs both a strong public sector and a strong private sector. Nor has he forgotten that the real civil rights movement was about tearing down the walls of a segregated society and creating equal opportunity for all, not the current effort on the part of billionaires to promote school choice and decimate public education.”

Here is the full interview as it aired on PBS.

As I was watching the interview, I kept thinking about how hedge funds use a form of securities fraud known as naked short selling or where phantom shares are created and real money changes hands with no delivery of the shares known as failure to deliver.

This has been going on for at least a decade and was a big reason behind the economy imploding in 2008.

My point is that if these private equity folks could brazenly bring down the house around them to make $$$ then how could we, including our elected representatives, give them license to take over public education?

Yes, I know propaganda is very powerful and these folks have a lot of $$$ to spend … I just hope we can defeat them.

Yes, and my understanding is that the NGA (National Governors’ Ass.) owns a major share of the copyrighted CCSS test, which means that the NGA will very soon acquire the monetary resources to control national elections and policies.
