Regent-gate: Up to 22 Board of Regent employees may have gotten raises.

6 Comments

The controversy surrounding pay raises at Malloy’s new Board of Regents goes well beyond the one Vice President who received a $49,000 pay raise last week.

Unconfirmed reports are that up to 22 Board of Regent employees received pay raises, some well into the tens of thousands of dollars.

As the CTMirror is reporting, “the second-highest ranking official in the state’s merged public college system will forego a controversial $49,000 pay raise, the system announced Tuesday morning.”

The CTMirror, CTNewsjunkie and Courant have all updated their stories within the last hour, although the fact that the raises are widespread is just leaking out now.

    Meotti’s pay hike, which represented a 27 percent increase, was one of the largest in the group, which added a net total of $262,206 in total compensation to the individuals involved.

    Other large increases included:

    $48,000 extra each for Eastern Connecticut State University President Elsa Nunez and Norwalk Community College President David Levinson, who would maintain their current jobs and perform new administrative duties in the central office. Nunez earns $299,460 as the president of Eastern, and Levinson earns $204,188 as Norwalk’s president;
    $25,000 for Elaine Clark, from $150,000 to $175,000, who would remain as vice president of facilities;
    $24,000 for director of policy and research Braden Hosch, from $124,999 to $148,999, who also took on the role of director of academic affairs;
    $20,000 for Public Affairs Director Colleen Flanagan Johnson, whose pay would rise from $130,000 to $150,000 as she also assumed the role of system chief of staff.

      I’ve been squawking about Nunez’s pay raise for a while now… I’m glad someone finally paid attention! She is vastly overpaid as it is.
      As a brilliant reader commented on the CT Mirror site, will Malloy get his knickers in a twist over these “illegal” payraises? Will he demand the resignation or firing of these greedy state employees grabbing something they had no right to? Or is it only underpaid single mothers who are punished for getting a cash card for Stop and Shop after losing power for a week?
      Off with all the heads of Boards in Connecticut! Send ‘em packing, and that includes Pryor.

    Jesus H….I just paid my bills today–or spent an hour picking and choosing which ones I could pay and which ones I could hold off on without incurring the wrath of the collection agencies. I’m watching credit card balances creep up as I get further and further behind. Meanwhile a-hole Dan Malloy is doling out raises like candy after smashing us with a record-breaking tax increase. Is it time for a mass occupation of the Capitol Building yet? Seriously–what will it take to get people angry enough to actually do something? I always believed the old “The pen is mightier than the sword” adage. But at this point I think it might be time for the sword. Anyone? Anyone? Hello? I’ve said it before–I’m willing to occupy the steps of the Capitol myself, but I think it’d be a lot more effective if I had a few others with me. :)

    Maybe the story of the year!
    And Dan is back-peddling like crazy trying to put some distance between himself and this mess…that he created!
    HIS BEST FRIENDS BROTHER for goodness sakes!
    Dan is passing out party favors while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet.
    PEOPLE!! Remember this nonsense when you are asked to vote for him!! He is a flim-flam man without a social conscience,no matter what his election material claims!!
    THANK GOODNESS FOR CTMIRROR and Jon Pelto! CtNJ may have picked the story up but they are so busy collecting money from campaign ads that they seem to have lost their way over there!
    PEOPLE!! Keep Jon in business! Donate to the blog!!

    Another fine example of TRICKLE DOWN EDUCATION.
    Meanwhile,they have the heat shut off in the classrooms in Stamford and kids are wearing coats. Saving money on fuel oil? Are the offices downtown heated?
