Hmm. What about this? Andrea Comer, a key supporter of Brandon McGee, left the City of Hartford in April to become the Senior Director of Strategic Planning for Jumoke Academy in Hartford, where Steve Perry is Principal. Steve Perry is one of the top 5 contributors to GNEPSA which made the $42,000 expenditure on behalf of McGee. I'm sure it's just a coincidence

Right on the money. Who coordinated this whole expenditure? You can't convince me the McGee campaign didnt know it was coming. Takes advance planning to spend this kind of money. Remember, only 12 days from judge order to primary day. Anyone around politics know how long it take to get a mailer into houses, or to hire and deploy canvassers.

I'm not that well-versed in election law, but are 501(c)(4)s allowed to devote this much to directly affecting political campaigns? The fact that the 501(c)(3)s and (4)s can share staff and resources, yet play by different rules is mind-boggling. So, if you step into the next room and change your shirt, you are no longer a political advocate but a "social welfare" group? According to an on-line article: "Consumers may file IRS Form 13909 with documentation to complain about inappropriate or fradulent (i.e., fundraising, political campaigning, lobbying) activities by any 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization." Any lawyers or IRS-savvy folks here who would know if there is cause to file a complaint? I had a contentious exchange a year or two back with Alex Johnston, the former head of ConnCAN and one of the key players in the notorious take-over of the Bridgeport Board of Ed, about this and apparently you can do this, but when does the situation warrant legal action? This is just infuriating that these well-funded pricks can get away with this blatant duplicity (and perhaps some illegal behavior as well?).

That's a lot of money for such a small election. Obviously, they're buying McGee's vote and threatening other more traditional Democrats. If you don't support the reform movement we'll remove you by buying your oppenents favor. Extorsion?
A Democrat is a shoe in since the district lines have been redrawn. No way a repbulican will win in Hartford.
