Great article and absolutely right. Unfortunately, "don't bite the hand that feeds you" is the way of the world.

Retired Chancellor David Carter's and BOT Chair Karl Krapek's selfish, egregious behavior seem to have led to the dismantling of the entire CT higher education system. Thanks guys!

However, as far as I have heard, UCONN is exempt from the higher education consolidation initiative, but am unsure if this will also be the case re OPM/hiring.

Blogs like this are what gives the people who know better the courage to spaek up. Is anybody at the state reading it? At the Universities or Community clleges? I'll forward to some friends.

In general, tho, we are all being cowed into silence by the vitriolic nature of the 'discussions' going on around the nation. Do you want to be in someone's "crosshairs?" Oh, yeah, it's just words.

Bravo, Jon.

"The Governor’s initiative is wrong and bad, but it is the deafening silence from those who know it that is really disturbing."

Going along to get along makes one complicit in the process--Correct. I have watched this process all my life and I don't know what the answer is. I have also watched the dumbing down process and we the people don't get it. At this point in time the only thing that will wake people up is massive demonstrations like what was present in the sixties and presently in Wisconsin. We have been taken, hood winked, we have been bamboozled. I have watched problems such as this get swept under the rug and the next time it appears there is something else attached to it, which makes it much harder to solve.

We have been sending messages to politicians for decades. Look at the voting records of the populace in this state alone---The run for governor this last election 20% of registered Dems voted in the primary---over 800,000 registered voters did not vote in this last election, not counting those who are not registered. This says to politicians that the general public does not care, we the politicans can do what we want and that is just what has happened.

My passion is the drug war and after a hundred years of drug prohibition and over four decades of the drug war there are more drugs at cheaper prices on our streets than ever before and we wonder why there is deafing silence. Come on--we have met the enemy and what is most distrubing is that it is us.
